IMPORTANT INFORMATION - The National Solar Schools Program has been temporarily suspended to new claims in 2009-10Following the very high demand for funding from the program in 2009-10, in October 2009 the Department temporarily suspended the program to new claims in the current financial year. All claims submitted to the program prior to its temporary suspension at 3:00pm AESDST Thursday 15 October 2009 will be processed in the 2009-10 financial year. The program will re-open to new claims early in the 2010-11 financial year
IMPORTANT: Unlike some government programs, funding provided under the National Solar Schools Program is not a rebate. What this means is that funding will not be provided to meet commitments you have made, items that have been purchased or works that have been commenced or completed prior to you entering into a funding agreement with the Australian Government National Solar Schools Program.
To be eligible for funding, you must not enter into a commitment, purchase items or start work until a funding agreement with the Australian Government National Solar Schools Program has been signed.
A National Solar Schools grant is a one-off payment. If you do not use your full entitlement when you make your claim you will not be able to claim the remainder at a later date.
Please note that if your school has received Green Vouchers for Schools grant funding, and you wish to apply for grant funding under National Solar Schools, you must first have completed your Green Vouchers project within the specified period and have had accepted by us a final report and financial acquittal. This will allow us to assess your school's remaining entitlement (if any) under National Solar Schools. The NSSP Program The National Solar Schools Program (NSSP) is available from July 2008 to June 2015. Every school in Australia is now eligible for a rebate under the $480 million NSSP fund. The National Solar Schools Program will help Australian schools take practical action to tackle climate change by offering grants of up to $50 000 (excluding GST) to install solar power systems. Schools will be able to improve their energy efficiency as well as reduce their in-going energy costs. In particular, foe schools with a mains power supply, surplus electricity generated by solar power systems on weekends and during school holidays may be able to be sold back to the electricity grid for extra electricity and greenhouse savings. Schools can tackle climate change directly by participating in the program. Schools will be able to reduce their ongoing costs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions at the same time. Schools on mains power can sell surplus energy generated on weekends and holidays back to the electricity grid for extra savings. The National Solar Schools Program allows schools to:
Primary and secondary schools installing a minimum 2 kilowatt (kW) solar power system are eligible for a grant of up to $50 000 (GST exclusive) for the installation of eligible items. If a solar power system of less than 2kW is installed, a grant of up to $30 000 (GST exclusive) is available to be spent on eligible items. Support the growth of the renewable energy industry by capitalising on the government's NSSP program and installing a clean energy solar power system. Read the PDF file below for more information.
